About the university

Zhengzhou University (ZZU), governed by the People’s Government of Henan Province, is a leading institution located in Zhengzhou City with four campuses across 939 acres. ZZU enrolls over 55,000 undergraduates, 15,000 postgraduates, and 1,800 international students from 116 countries. It is recognized as a National “211 Project” university and is part of China’s “One Province, One University” initiative. In 2017, ZZU was included in the National World-Class Universities construction project.
ZZU has a rich history dating back to 1928, with a strong legacy in medical education, stemming from the National No.5 Sun Yat-sen University. The university was formed in 2000 through the merger of three institutions, including the former ZZU, Zhengzhou University of Technology, and Henan Medical University.
ZZU offers 12 major disciplines and boasts significant achievements in clinical medicine, materials science, engineering, and chemistry. It ranks among the top in the world for these disciplines, with five fields in the top 1% of ESI rankings globally. Requirements for Applicants
Bachelor’s Program:
Non-Chinese citizens, aged 18-30, healthy, with no criminal record.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
For English-Mediated Instruction (EMI): IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 82.
For Chinese-Mediated Instruction (CMI): HSK level 4 (Science/Engineering) or HSK level 5 (Liberal Arts). Lower levels can first apply for Chinese Language Programs.
Country-Specific Bachelor’s Requirements:
Vary by country, typically requiring a high school diploma or equivalent with specific national exams or certificates.
Master’s Program:
Non-Chinese citizens, under 40, holding a bachelor’s degree, healthy, with no criminal record.
EMI: IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90.
CMI: HSK level 5, with options to improve language skills before starting the degree.

Doctoral Program:
Non-Chinese citizens, under 45, holding a master’s degree, healthy, with no criminal record.

Research Programs:
Highly individualized and supervised. Initial inquiries with potential supervisors are recommended before applying. A research proposal is required.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Different categories of scholarships are available for outperformer students.
Application Documents:

- Foreigner Physical Examination Form: A completed form in English, covering all listed items, with a valid result for 6 months. The original should be kept by the applicant.
- Non-Criminal Record: Issued by the local public security, valid for at least 6 months.
- Bank Deposit Proof: Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the first academic year.
- Academic Documents: Notarized graduate certificates, degree certificates, transcripts, and, if applicable, a dissertation. All documents must be in Chinese or English, with notarized translations if in another language.
- Language Proficiency:
English-Taught Programs: TOEFL/IELTS scores or proof of English-medium education.
Chinese-Taught Programs: HSK Level 5 or 6 certificate, valid for two years.
- Recommendation Letters: Two letters from associate professors or higher, with contact details.
