Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (ZCMU) is a prominent institution in Zhejiang Province, recognized as a key university under the joint administration of the Zhejiang Provincial Government, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Bureau of Education. Established in June 1953 as Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Training School, ZCMU has undergone several transformations, evolving into a comprehensive university that emphasizes the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

The university initially operated from the former site of Zhejiang University in Qingchun Street, Hangzhou. In 1998, ZCMU was granted the authority to confer doctoral degrees, marking a significant milestone in its academic development. In March 2000, the university relocated to Hangzhou Binjiang Higher Education Park, and in February 2006, it was officially renamed Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. The opening of the Fuchun Campus in September 2015 further expanded the university’s facilities, enabling it to operate across two campuses.

ZCMU is one of the first institutions in China to recruit and train graduate students in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It holds the distinction of being among the first universities in Zhejiang Province to confer doctoral degrees and establish post-doctoral research stations. The university’s doctoral programs cover three first-class disciplines: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and Traditional Chinese Pharmacy. Its master’s programs span ten first-class disciplines, including Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, and Public Health, among others. ZCMU also offers various professional degrees and hosts three post-doctoral research stations.

Currently, ZCMU has a student population of over 20,000, including more than 3,700 master’s and doctoral students, as well as over 800 international students. The School of International Education at ZCMU is dedicated to academic education, with a focus on nurturing high-level master’s and doctoral talents. The school also offers distinctive TCM courses and actively engages in international educational exchanges and cooperation. Since it began admitting international students in 1985, ZCMU has developed a comprehensive education and training system that has produced over 5,000 graduates from more than 50 countries. To support international students, the university offers several scholarships, including the “Zhejiang Provincial Government Scholarship for Overseas Students in China,” the “Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Scholarship for Overseas Students,” and the “Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine President Scholarship.
