ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

North Henan Medical University is located in Xinxiang, northern Henan Province, is only away from Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province for over several miles, also faces the ancient capital of Kaifeng across the river. It is a regular undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education in February, 2025, which was Sanquan MedicalCollege established in 2003.The university currently has two campuses, namely the Xinxiang Campus and the Pingyuan Campus, covering an area of more than 2,000 mu. There are currently more than 23,000 full-time students and more than 1,400 faculty members.To build a new medical college and university which is the domestic first-class, regional leading one with local, high level, characteristics, application-oriented features. By adhering to the guiding ideology of fully meeting the needs of society, implementing competence education, and comprehensively cultivating medical talents; Based on the thought of running a new type of medical college, which is a more local, high level, characteristics, application-oriented college; Treating the strategy of healthy China and healthy Central Plain as the lead, with the purpose of serving the economic and social development of the region, and the medical and health services’ development; Aiming to build first-class educational environment, implement first-class medical education, strive to create first-class private universities and cultivate first-class application talents; Implementing thoroughly the five strategies of “building a school with quality, strengthening the school with talents, integrating and revitalizing the school, reforming and revitalizing the school and enriching the school with culture.

The school undertakes 25 undergraduate and in 5 domains of Medicine, Management, Science, Engineering and Literature, and has educated more than 68 thousand outstanding medical students. The university is a master’s degree awarding key project training unit, supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It has 3 provincial key disciplines, 3 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points, 7 provincial brand major construction points of private colleges and universities, 9 provincial private ordinary colleges and universities subject professional funding projects, 1 provincial private ordinary colleges and universities featuring development project, 4 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot project, 8 national special majors. There are 2 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 productive teaching workshops and 8 practical training centers. The school has 5 affiliated hospitals, among which the Nanshi Hospital of Nanyang is a Class A tertiary hospital, which is the National Base for Stroke Screening and Prevention, the National Chest Pain Center, and the Standardized Training Base for Resident Doctors.

In terms of international development, the university has established friendly cooperative relations with 25 overseas universities or scientific institution from 12 countries, including America, Britain and Italy etc.Meantime,the university was granted the qualification of recruiting foreign teachers in 2015. In 2017, it was approved to recruit international students, becoming the first independent college in the country to have this qualification. NHMU made its way into the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDMS) of WHO in 2018, and embarked on recruiting international students in the same year. Afterwards, its Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Nursing program was approved in 2019 to admit Chinese students, followed by another joint program with University of Bedfordshire of the UK in 2020. The same year then witnessed NHMU’s joining into the World Higher Education Database of the International Association of Universities (IAU) supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO). In 2021, the university obtained certification from the Council for the Education of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG); In 2024, successfully joined into the “the Belt and Road” international medical education cooperation platform. Till to now, more than 190 students from 19 countries including India, Indonesia, Tanzania, and Ghana have come to study at the university.
