Southwest Medical University (SWMU), located in Luzhou city, Sichuan Province, is a prominent higher education institution with campuses in Zhongshan and Chengbei, covering over 2000 mu. Positioned at the intersection of Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou provinces, and Chongqing Municipality, Luzhou is celebrated as a significant Chinese Historical and Cultural City.

Established over sixty years ago, SWMU has become a key hub for medical training, research, and healthcare in the region, having educated more than 110,000 professionals. Its diverse academic offerings include 26 undergraduate majors across seven disciplines, and it ranks among the top 1% in Clinical Medicine globally.

The university is deeply committed to international collaboration, maintaining long-term partnerships with institutions in over 20 countries, including the United States, Japan, and Germany. It has cooperative agreements with prestigious institutions such as the Medical School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Portuguese National Acupuncture Association, Missouri State University, and Huamei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. These partnerships facilitate extensive exchanges in research, teacher training, and student development.

From 2009 to 2013, SWMU hosted 85 foreign experts and scholars from renowned universities and research institutions worldwide, including the University of Sheffield (UK), University of Heidelberg (Germany), University of Iowa (USA), and Kitasato University (Japan). The university has also welcomed 20 groups from countries such as the United States, France, Portugal, and Hong Kong for short-term visits and collaborations, and has organized significant international academic events, including the Sino-US Wine City Cardiovascular Forum and the Sichuan-Texas Biomedical Seminar.

In recent years, SWMU has enhanced its international faculty presence, employing 21 long-term foreign experts, including medical teachers, scientific research experts, and language instructors, as well as recruiting two foreign doctors for its postdoctoral research workstation. This global engagement underscores SWMU’s commitment to fostering a diverse and dynamic educational environment.

Requirements for Applicants

Bachelor’s Program:

Non-Chinese citizens, aged 18-30, healthy, with no criminal record.

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Application Documents:

  1. Passport: A photocopy or scan, valid for at least 6 months at the time of registration.
  2. Application Form:
  3. Foreigner Physical Examination Form: A completed form in English, covering all listed items, with a valid result for 6 months. The original should be kept by the applicant.
  4. Non-Criminal Record: Issued by the local public security, valid for at least 6 months.
  5. Bank Deposit Proof: Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the first academic year.
  6. Academic Documents: Notarized graduate certificates, degree certificates, transcripts, and, if applicable, a dissertation. All documents must be in Chinese or English, with notarized translations if in another language.
  7. Language Proficiency:

English-Taught Programs: TOEFL/IELTS scores or proof of English-medium education.
