About the university
Shandong First Medical University & Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences (SDFMU & SAMS) was formally established in February 2019, whereas its educational history can be traced back to the first official medical college in Shandong Province, Shandong Provincial Medical Training Institute, which was founded in 1915. By combining the resources of Taishan Medical University, Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences, Shandong Provincial Hospital, and Shandong Qianfoshan Hospital, SDFMU is dedicated to integrating applied and basic medical research with education and clinical services.
SDFMU is a key construction university and also the largest medical science research institution in Shandong Province. In 2020, it was selected as a “top tier” university in the Shandong Provincial High Level University Construction Project. SDFMU has campuses in Jinan and Tai’an, with the main campus located in the core area of Jinan International Medical Center (No. 6699 Qingdao Road, Jinan). Research institutions have been established in Jinan, Qingdao, Jining and other places, covering a total area of over 400 acres.
There are more than 19,000 employees (including staff from affiliated hospitals), among them 9 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 2 overseas academicians. SDFMU carries out a complete talent training system covering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. At present, there are over 25,000 full-time students, including 22,000 undergraduates, 3,300 postgraduates and more than 400 international students.
Clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, neuroscience and behavioral science, chemistry, immunology, microbiology，and social sciences, general rank in the top 1% of ESI global rankings, among them clinical medicine ranking in the top 0.80 ‰ of it. SDFMU has multiple affiliated hospitals and the number of outpatients exceed 10 million per year. Among them, Affiliated Provincial Hospital and Affiliated Tumor Hospital rank in the top 100 in China. Currently, SDFMU is guiding the province to carry out prevention and treatment of occupational diseases, skin diseases, parasitic diseases, tumors, radiation protection, blindness prevention, rare diseases, etc.
SDFMU is one of the first batch to award the Shandong Provincial Government Scholarship for Foreign Students. Since 2004, it has recruited undergraduates and postgraduates from over 40 countries and regions such as the United States, South Korea, and India, and has a good reputation for international education. It has established good cooperative relationships with universities, medical and research institutions in over 30 countries and regions.

SCHOLARSHIPS:
• Scholarships are available for the first 20 students enrolled in the first year of the BDS, Nursing, and Pharmacy programs, covering full tuition fees. From the second year onward, these programs will be self-financed, with opportunities to earn scholarships based on academic performance.
• For master’s and PhD programs, a first-year scholarship of 20,000 RMB for master’s students and 25,000 RMB for PhD students is available. Scholarship eligibility for subsequent years will be evaluated based on annual performance.
Application Materials
1. Scanned copy of passport valid for at least 18 months.
2. Valid health certificate issued by a local hospital within the past 6 months.
3. Valid Certificate of No Criminal Record issued by the local public security bureau within the
past 6 months.
For applicants who have studied in Chinese universities, this certificate can be provided by the
current school.
4. Proof of highest education degree/qualification.
If the applicant is a student or has been employed, he/she should also submit a study certificate
(transfer certificate) issued by the applicant’s school or employment certificate issued by the
employer. The non-Chinese or English version should be attached with a notarized Chinese or
English translation: Bachelor’s degree or above obtained outside mainland China must be certified
5. For applicants of English-taught majors, the high school graduation exam total score should be
at least B level (score 60%-70%) or above, with an English subject score of at least 65% of the full score, or an IELTS certificate with a score of 6.5 or above. For applicants of Chinese-taught
majors, an HSK certificate is also required.
Non-Chinese or English documents must be accompanied by a notarized Chinese or English
translation.
6. Proof of Financial Support: At least deposit certificate of US $5000;
7.Self-introduction video: self-introduction of at least 1 minute, Chinese or English.
8.Scanned documents of economic guarantor and contact person in China.
9.The following materials are required for graduate application: undergraduate / master report, resume in Chinese and English, personal statement and expert recommendation letter.
